Papua New Guinea Flag

We carry authentic Papua New Guinea Flags in both indoor and outdoor varieties. Our flags are proudly made in the United States from durable nylon and are printed with vibrant long-lasting inks. The Papua New Guinea national flag is often displayed at embassies, outside of businesses associated with Papua New Guinea, and at the homes of people who take great pride in their Papua New Guinea heritage.

Our indoor flags are finished with a pole hem and your choice of with or without golden fringe. Gold fringe is the traditional way to display an indoor flag, however, some people choose without fringe for a simple and clean look that is also less expensive. If you are looking for a complete indoor presentation set, our Build Your Own Indoor International Flag Set program allows you to select a durable nylon indoor Papua New Guinea Flag and choose between premium quality poles, bases, and ornaments, and tassel. For indoor applications, most buyers choose a 3ft. x 5ft. flag with an 8ft. pole, however, if you have a low ceiling, you may opt for a 7ft. pole, which is designed to work with drop ceilings. If you are looking for a very substantial international flag display, our 4ft. x 6ft. indoor flags can be paired with a 9ft. pole for our largest indoor display option.

Our outdoor international flags are finished with a canvas header and brass grommets and are offered in four sizes: 2ft. x 3ft., 3ft. x 5ft., 4ft. x 6ft., and 5ft. x 8ft., to fit any sized flagpole. Typically, outdoor flags are flown outside of government organizations, businesses, and institutions on in-ground and wall-mount flagpoles, however, some people also buy these flags to display their international pride at home. If you are looking for a wall-mount Papua New Guinea flag set to display outside of your home, our Build Your Own Outdoor International Flag Set program will allow you to choose between premium quality 6ft. poles and brackets to display the Papua New Guinea Flag on your front porch. Outdoor flags can also be displayed indoors on interior walls of your home with screws anchored in the wall to attach to the grommets.

In addition to the flags we offer for purchase, we maintain an archive of the audio and lyrics of the Papua New Guinea National Anthem, historical information about the Papua New Guinea flag, demographic data about Papua New Guinea, and free high resolution images of the Papua New Guinea flag for use in projects and on websites.

Regardless of your application, we are looking forward to working with you to provide the required flags, flagpoles, and hardware for your application. If you need assistance, please reach out to us by phone, email, or chat, and we will be happy to help.

History of the Papua New Guinea Flag

The Papua New Guinea Flag is divided diagonally from the top left corner to the bottom right corner. The upper triangle of the flag is a red field with a yellow Raggiana Bird of Paradise in the middle. The lower triangle is a black field with five white 5-pointed stars (there are 4 large stars and 1 small star), depicting the Southern Cross. The red and black colors that are used on the flag are traditional Papua New Guinea tribal colors. The red color represents bravery, the black color represents the people of Papua New Guinea, and the yellow color represents the mineral wealth of the country. The bird of paradise is the tribal symbol of the country and the Southern Cross represents the relationship and connection that Papua New Guinea still has with Australia as well as representing that the country is in the Southern Hemisphere and the Southern Cross can be seen. The Papua New Guinea Flag was designed by a 15 year old girl named Susan Karike, who won the national competition to design the flag and was adopted on June 24th, 1971.

Papua New Guinea is an island country in the Pacific Ocean. It covers the Eastern half of the Island, New Guinea, which is considered to be one of the biggest islands in the world. Papua New Guinea shares a border with Indonesia and shares boundaries with Australia, Micronesia, and the Solomon Islands. The capital and largest city is called Port Moresby (also referred to as Pom City or Moresby). The country is mainly mountainous with the largest mountain and highest point being "Mount Wilhelm."

It is thought that New Guinea was first discovered by European explorers in the 16th century, and, at the time, it was referred to as "Isla De Oro," which translates as "Island of Gold." In 1884, the Southern Half of the island was ruled and a protectorate of the British and was known as British New Guinea, whilst the Northern half of the country was ruled by Germany and became a colony, known as German New Guinea.

In 1905, The British gave authority to Australia to administer the Southern half of the country following the "Papua Act" and it was known as "The Territory of Papua." In 1914, during WWI, the Australians managed to capture the Northern half from the Germans and occupy it. Both the Southern half and Northern half were administered by the Australians, yet, they had independent identities and statuses until 1949, when both of the territories merged into New Guinea and Territory of Papua.

Eight years later, they were renamed Papua New Guinea. On December 1st, 1973, Papua New Guinea was granted self-government by Australia and on September 16th, 1975, they gained full independence. Papua New Guinea and Australia still have a strong connection as Australia still supports the country, despite their independence.

Papau New Guinea National Anthem

O Arise, All You Sons

Listen

Lyrics

O arise all you sons of this land,
Let us sing of our joy to be free,
Praising God and rejoicing to be
Papua New Guinea.

Shout our name from the mountains to seas
Papua New Guinea;
Let us raise our voices and proclaim
Papua New Guinea.

Now give thanks to the good Lord above
For His kindness, His wisdom and love
For this land of our fathers so free,
Papua New Guinea.

Shout again for the whole world to hear
Papua New Guinea;
We're independent and we're free,
Papua New Guinea.
